New Bulletproof Vests for Dogs in the Philadelphia K9 Unit.
The Philadelphia Police Foundation (PPF) presented the Philadelphia Police K-9 Unit with 23 bulletproof and puncture-proof body armor vests for every dog during presentation ceremony at Police Headquarters. New state-of-the-art, custom-fitted vests were made possible through a $22,000 contribution from Joanne Berwind (second from left). Ms. Berwind was prompted to provide body armor for the Police Department’s K-9 Unit dogs after reading about a police dog that was killed while on duty in Virginia. Also taking part in the ceremony are (from left) Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross, Ms. Berwind, PPF Board President Maureen Rush, and Peter Madden, PPF Executive Board member.
