Social Media Crime and Threat Monitoring Software
SNAP TRENDS is a location-based social media monitoring and analytics software application that would increase the Police Department’s situational awareness as it investigates criminal activity, monitors major events and identifies potential threats for early detection and intervention.
While respecting individual civil liberties and departmental policies, specially trained officers will retrieve publicly available data from social media networks and analyze it in real time to support specialized units such as the Real Time Crime Center, Delaware Valley Intelligence Center, Criminal Intelligence Unit, and the Homeland Security Unit in their work to prevent and investigate crime & terrorism. With a capability to map trends and patterns, SNAP TRENDS can also be used to identify and track gang activity as well as facilitate criminal investigations and investigative decision making.
The software is sold on an annual subscription basis. The Department is requesting funding for five subscriptions @$3,150 annually per subscription – an annual total of $15,750.
