Wow! This year’s Night for Blue was a poignant and impactful evening! Because of your tremendous support, we raised over $910,000 to fund critical efforts and technology for the Philadelphia Police Department! Thank you to all of our Night for Blue Sponsors for your generosity!
Over 500 businesses leaders, Philadelphia Police Department leaders and Officers, community members, and elected officials were there to recognize Independence Blue Cross, when the 2024 Founders Award was presented to their president and CEO, Mr. Greg Deavens. We are grateful for Independence Blue Cross’ important partnership with PPF and support of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Honoring Sergeant Richard Carrero Mendez
It was also an emotional evening, as we honored Sergeant Richard Carrero Mendez, posthumously, with the Extraordinary Acts of Courage Award. Sergeant Carrero Mendez, a committed Philadelphia Police Officer for more than 23 years, was killed in the line of duty in October 2023. A life-long learner, Sergaent Carrero Mendez achieved his master’s degree and held over 67 commendations and certifications. At his core, Sergeant Carrero Mendez was a loving family man, dedicated to his wife, Alex and daughter, Mia. We will forever honor Sergeant Carrero Mendez’s sacrifice and lift up his family and fellow Officers.
PPD Drone Initiative
The Night for Blue ended with a powerful Call to Action to support a new law enforcement Drone Initiative for the Philadelphia Police Department! Thank you to the generosity of our Night for Blue supporters, the Philadelphia Police Foundation will be able to provide significant funding for this program, which will enhance PPD’s ability to make Philadelphia the safest big city in the nation!
